John Witherspoon

John Witherspoon received a fine education in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he earned a Master of Arts, spent four years in divinity school, and at theJohnWitherspoon age of 20, he became a Presbytarian minister. He authored three noted theology works, and at the urging of influential Americans including Dr. Benjamin Rush and Richard Stockton, came to America at age 45, where he became the sixth President of College of New Jersey, now known as Princeton, from 1768-92. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence, and and was twice elected to New Jersey State Legislature from 1776 to 1782.
